Deal Tri Gringos in Espana
|
|
trevor heath writes "Whilst all you poor souls were freezing your wotsits off in the UK on Sunday, Zach and I were enjoying some gloriously sunny weather at the Los Palacios Half Marathon in Southern Spain. This is Spain's biggest half marathon with over 2200 competitors (plus several hundred sheep!). The sheep got out of a field half-way round the course and decided to run with the race for a few miles. The trouble is they smelled horrible and kept zig-zagging accross the course. Some of the locals got very upset and threw their water bottles at the offending beasties as we ran along. Zach did a very good 1.47 - not bad for a first attempt at a half with no training. I did a much slower time than last year (1.31) - the trouble is I'm just not getting enough mileage in! Alison and Zach's kids had a great time watching the finishers from the grandstands. Great goody bags and freebies too! Here's a link with pictures of the race. Trevor

Anonymous writes "I'm not a club member, however, I have an Ironman wetsuit (male size medium) to give away to a good home.
It's an old one but in good/ok condition and I'd prefer to give it away to a junior or novice but anyone is welcome.
Please contact me at ak68@cant.ac.uk if you are interested.

frenchiebike writes "For any member wanting to travel over to do the Ardres Duathlon the registration form is at the Deal Tri offices if you would like a copy.
It is on Sunday 25th September starting at 2.30pm on a flat run course and an undulating cycle course on closed roads. A BTA licence or medical certificate saying you're fit to take part (in French) will be required."

Channel Chicks Swim out of water?
|
|
the Deal tri reporte writes "The Channel Chicks relay swim team last night heard that there proposed swim across the channel may now have to be changed or left untill next year. This is due to Southern water boards hose pipe and sprinkler ban which came into force yesterday.
Spokesperson for the Chicks Jo Malpass has had urgent talks with the Channel swimming committe and it seems that if the water is still low the team will be able to walk across as long as they are wearing a swimming costume and have no outside assistance.
Jo said" This will enable the crossing still to take place, but we are still not sure how to get the pilots boat across with the officals on""

Anonymous writes "I am riding the Etape this year based purely on running training on the basis that cycling is so easy in comparison to running that it should be a doddle - a theory I may live to regret!. Catherine is joining me on the trip but not the main ride but would like to join the other non cyclists going gently cycling from point to point. Trouble is her bike is in storage (along with the rest of our furniture) because we are currently having our new house finished.
Therefore, is there any Deal Tri member that could lend her a bike for a few days in July (6th - 12th)?
Our phone numbers are 01227 738338/07740 945675. Thanks David Chapman-Jones"

the deal tri reporte writes "With only 10 days to go before the Shropshire triathlon the big guns have come out firing. It looks like everyone is out to take on the Swim Coach.
"I intend to beat Graham easily in the swim" Zach reported on the Deal forum swimmng Q&A "Since moving away my swimming has just got stronger, after all its only 1500m! thats just getting wet" he added in a private interview.
In an earlier statement Howard also said he would take revenge for EG big time at Shropshire.
The swim coach was unavailable for comment as it was suggested he was sitting in a cold bath to acclimatise to the unseasonal weather and temperture. The only words we had heard from him was "Its nearly time for open water swimming, I can smell the fear""
